Rediculous Weather

There is something desperately wrong with the weather patterns in this city! This is not a new revelation, but this week simply confirms it. The day before Thanksgiving (exactly 9 days ago now), I went running wearing shorts and a t-shirt. Admitedly, I do this sometimes when the non-runners are wearing jeans and light jackets, but on that particular day it was hot (somewhere around 70). The day after Thanksgiving I spent most of the morning hanging Christmas lights in a t-shirt and jeans (this time it was the upper 60s). Side-bar: last year I had on ski pants, long johns, boots, my heavy coat, a hat, and gloves. There was snow on the ground and it was about 15. Now back to the point. Sunday and Tuesday again provided good running days with temperatures in the upper 60s and low 70s. I would never complain about weather like that in the winter, but due to the weather that followed I have to complain. You see, Wednesday the high temperature for the day was reached at 12 am. The starting point was in the low 50s and by lunchtime it was in the low 30s. Soon thereafter the freezing rain, sleet, and later snow began to fall. Final result: ice covered Kansas City. It could have improved and gone back to 70 (as some of us might expect in KC), but that was not the case this week. It only got worse. Yesterday the temperature dropped into the teens with wind chills below zero and the snow started falling. I love snow, don't get me wrong, but snow is only fun when you don't have to go to work and the temperature is not so cold that your snot freezes to your face and your ears burn within seconds of opening the door. They predicted up to 10 inches, depending on which weatherman you trust, but we ended the storm around here with only about 3 or 4 inches. Not bad really and the road crews do a pretty decent job in KS so I can't complain too much. The current temperature is 15 degrees, but thankfully the sun is out and we will likely make it into the upper 30s today and hopefully stay there for the rest of the weekend. Enough complaining. God has protected us and provided a warm house to sleep in and a job that is indoors, plus enough money to eat and pay the bills. Thanks be to God.

I'm glad I'm out of the Kansas weather patterns. What's it going to be like in Reno/Tahoe for the next week, two or three weeks, you might ask. "The same as yesterday, Kevin."
